In announcing his new 'Reclaim our Water' initiative, County Executive Steve Bellone noted that "The alarming increase of nitrogen pollution from septic systems and cesspools in Suffolk County’s surface and ground waters is leading toward an ecological collapse. Nitrogen pollution adversely affects our coastal resiliency, our environment, our economy, our land values, our tourism industry and our recreational use of our waters. We must take immediate and decisive action to remediate the decades of nitrogen pollution.
The goal of the contest is to communicate the Nitrogen pollution issue and illustrate ways that target audiences such as homeowners, gardeners, farmers, pet owners, communities and others can improve water quality by changing simple behaviors. |

The Long Island BirthNetwork, a chapter of BirthNetwork National, is part of a nationwide grassroots movement which promotes the awareness and availability of evidence-based maternity care as defined by the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). We believe that birth can profoundly affect our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Through information, confidence and support, families can make informed choices and experience safe and satisfying childbirth. They will have a Rock n' Rest area for nursing mothers at the fair!
